Sealed bids, subject to the conditions contained herein, for improvements to the Garden Place Academy elementary school grounds in Denver, CO, will be received by the The Big SandBox, Inc., a Colorado nonprofit, at Garden Place Academy4425 Lincoln St, Denver, CO 80216 on Friday, June 16, 2017, at 1:00 P.M., and then publicly opened and read aloud.

Site Improvements and Fence Replacement

Garden Place Academy seeks to remove and replace those portions of the existing 6’ chain link fence that front both Lincoln Street and Leaf Court. The replacement fence shall be a 6’ powder-coated vertical picket fence installed over a 12” wide concrete mow strip as specified. The work includes a vehicular gate and a pedestrian gate on Leaf Court and pedestrian gates on Lincoln Street. The fence installation on Leaf Court shall be set back from the back of sidewalk at the distance indicated. A planting area with irrigation for new street trees is part of the work. A new pedestrian gate with identity graphics, stairs and sidewalk shall be installed on Lincoln Street. The Leaf Court fence will be set back to widen the sidewalk as indicated for a portion of the block. Four planting pits with irrigation shall be installed along the curb line on Leaf Court. A new dumpster enclosure, gates and driveway access shall be constructed on E 44th Avenue.

Within the schoolyard, new play equipment shall be added to existing play structures. All work shall be completed with the existing play pits. One set of swings shall be removed and replaced with a group swing in the existing swing pit. A landscape feature shall be added north of the swing pit. Work in this area shall include, but not be limited to; installation of natural boulders and tree stump tables and seats. A new stabilized crusher fines track shall be added within the existing playing field. A new sidewalk will lead from the Lincoln Street gateway to a paved gathering space which is located adjacent to existing pavement. Irrigation for new street trees on both Lincoln Street and Leaf Court is part of this work. Irrigation for new trees within the schoolyard is part of this work. New trees shall be provided by others and installed later.

Pre-Bid Conference.  The pre-bid conference for this project was  held on Monday, June 12, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at Garden Place Academy4425 Lincoln St, Denver, CO 80216.  All bidders are required to examine the site to become familiar with all site conditions. Pre-Bid Minutes, Sign-In & Agenda

Bid Conditions.  The bidder is required to provide all information as required within the Contract Documents.  The bidder is required to bid on all items of every schedule or as otherwise detailed in the Instructions to Bidders.

Performance & Payment Bond. The successful bidder will be required to furnish separate performance and payment bonds each in an amount equal to 100% of the contract price.

Section 3. This project is subject to the Federal Requirement 24 Part 135 – Economic Opportunities for Low and Very Low Income Persons, also known as Section 3. Section 3 requires that employment and other economic opportunities generated by certain HUD financial assistance shall, to the greatest extent feasible, be directed to low income residents and promote utilization of low-income area businesses.
